Adult Staff Volunteer Opportunities
The adult staff team manages, leads, supervises and instructs the cadets of the unit to develop them into the youth of tomorrow. The team consists of Canadian Forces Officers – Cadets Instructor Cadre Branch, Civilian Instructors and Civilian Volunteers.
Open Positions
Currently, at 250 Vimy RCACS we are looking to fill the following positions:
Level Officers - Volunteer Position
Unit Public Affairs Officer - Volunteer Position

4-5 hrs/week minimum
The level officer at a cadet unit is the first line of contact in the chain of command for each of the cadet in there level. This is an important position as this person becomes the friendly face that the cadet can talk to and interact with in a professional manner.
The Level Officer (Lvl O) is responsible to the Training Officer for the following:
- Knowing each of the cadets in their level well, including their interests, skills and talents;
- welcoming new cadets to their level, introducing them to others, teaching them what they need to know as new members of the squadron, and making them feel like part of the team;
- holding beginning-of-year, mid-year, and year-end interviews with each of the cadets in their level to discuss the cadet’s interests and goals;
- Maintain the Level Training Program in accordance with squadron training plan;
- Manage the Level Training Program in accordance with established Cadet Training Directives;
- Mentoring each of the cadets in their level, including providing feedback and helping them set and achieve personal goals;
- Monitoring the training performance of each of the cadets in their level and ensuring each cadet is meeting the standards for each performance objective (PO) required by the QSP, so they are successful and can move on to the next level;
- Maintaining each cadet’s training file, including an accurate Qualification Record, located in Chapter 3 of the applicable level QSP;
- Recognizing the contributions and achievements of the cadets in their level throughout the training year and ensuring superiors are aware of any outstanding cadets;
- Maintaining good order and discipline within their level, including correcting any discipline or performance problems, referring to CATO 15-22, Conduct and Discipline – Cadets as required, Under the direction of the Squadron’s Standards
Officer; - Providing supervision of the cadets in their level
- Supervise cadet instructors in the preparation and presentation of their courses;
- Evaluate each instructor at least once a month informally and at least three time formally during the training year;
- Submit to the Trg O, demands for training films, videos and other visual aids;
- Ensure that an adequate system of examinations or tests is used to monitored
- the efficiency of training and individual cadet’s progress;
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by the Trg O.

Unit Public Affairs Officer - Volunteer Poisition
4-5 hrs/week minimum
The unit public affairs officer is the face behind the camera for the unit. Capturing all our special moments and blasting the message across all our social media platforms and the internet. They are responsible for providing a positive digitally social life for the unit.
The Unit Public Affairs Officer (UPAR) is responsible to the Commanding Officer for
carrying out the following duties:
- Act as an assisting resource to the Commanding Officer to carry out public affairs, media relations and community relations in accordance with DAOD 2008,
CATO 13-33 and 11-06; - Develop and execute a LHQ Public Affairs Plan; prepare materials; print, radio, television, slide presentations, electronic and video presentations to meet the requirements of the plan;
- Respond to media queries as the primary spokesperson for general information and direct reporters to subject matter experts for all other queries;
- Proactively issue News Releases, Backgrounders, Media Advisories regarding training centre activities including special events, graduations and visitors;\
Monitor the public image of the LHQ in the neighbouring community; - Maintain units social media accounts (I.e., facebook, instagram, etc.)
- Maintain units events and producing engaging contact for the community
- Supervise and mentor staff cadets in imagery capture and drafting print products;
- Any other duties as established by the CO.
