Squadron History

ABOUT 250 VIMY

Vimy RCACS began its journey of training cadets in 1961 at CFB Halifax.

In the early days, 250 Vimy RCACS was the unit of choice among youth in the Halifax area. Unfortunately, in 2005, due to issues with facilities, staff and a valid sponsor to support the unit, 250 Vimy was deemed shut down.

This shutdown did not lead to the end of the unit. In 2009, the squadron started again in the newly developed area of Hammonds Plains, parading out of the Hammonds Plains Fire Hall. The unit started with 15 cadets and, by the end of the first year, had 33 cadets on parade at ACR. From there, 250 Vimy RCACS kept growing to reach its current level of 75 cadets.

In 2011, the Hammonds Plains Fire Hall became too small to house the fast-growing unit. The squadron moved to its current location of the Estabrooks Community Hall in Lewis Lake.

Since the revitalization of the unit in 2009, the unit has seen 6 Commanding Officers:
